A Vibrant & Editorial Makeup Artist Website on Squarespace

After her Wordpress website got hacked, Tamra Johnson was happy to make the switch to Squarespace. But she needed the site done yesterday, and DIY is not really her style.

To enable us to move as quickly as possible, Tamra selected a premium Squarespace template from Big Cat Creative. Over the next two weeks, we worked closely together to refresh her branding and build a new website that was confident and vibrant.

As a makeup artist, Tamra loves strong colors and focuses on people with rich melanin skin tones. We selected a bright palette of peach, terracotta and lavender that would complement her clients’ skin tones. We brought in an editorial feel with a sophisticated font palette.

The most exciting (and at times, most difficult!) part of the website design was selecting images from Tamra’s amazing portfolio of work to use on her main web pages. Our goal was to best illustrate her artistry range in working with various skin tones and in multiple settings, from weddings to professional headshots to editorial shoots.

In the days following her site's launch, Tamra had already created blog posts and curated a stunning portfolio of her makeup artistry work — two things she had never felt empowered to do with her old Wordpress site. Even better, she now feels her clients get to know the real her — a mix of “exuberance and chic simplicity” — when they land on her new website!
